Help us communicate, connect and deliver for our community

Rushmere St Andrew Parish Council is looking for an enthusiastic, highly organised and digitally confident Assistant Clerk to join our team.

This is a varied and interesting role at the heart of the community. Working closely with the parish clerk, councillors and partner organisations, you will help ensure the Council provides an efficient, professional and responsive service to residents.

The role combines essential administrative support for the Clerk and Council with responsibility for communications, digital content and data management. You will respond to enquiries, maintain accurate records, support meetings and help deliver Council projects, events and activities. You will also manage and develop the Council’s website and social media channels, prepare news releases and publications, and ensure residents and community organisations receive clear, timely and accessible information.

We are looking for someone who:

  • has excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • feels confident with social media channels and other digital systems;

  • can produce engaging, accurate and accessible content for different audiences;

  • has strong administrative and organisational skills and excellent attention to detail;

  • can manage competing priorities and work to deadlines;

  • understands the importance of accuracy, confidentiality and data protection;

  • is comfortable dealing professionally with residents, councillors, contractors, partner organisations and the media;

  • can work independently, use initiative and also work effectively as part of a small team; and

  • is willing to learn about local government and undertake relevant training.

Previous experience in a parish or town council or another local government setting would be an advantage but is not essential. We are looking for the right combination of communication, digital, administrative and organisational skills, and will provide training to help the successful candidate develop their knowledge of local government.

The role requires some flexibility, including occasional attendance at evening meetings and council/community events.

Why join us?

Parish councils are the tier of local government closest to their communities. This role offers an opportunity to work on a wide range of issues, communicate directly with residents and help deliver projects and services that make a visible difference locally.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Cllr Stafford Taylor on 07789272211 or Mrs Sylvia Stannard, Parish Clerk, on 01473 711509.
